John Mills: Labour is 'finished' unless it reconnects with working class voters

Labour could lose 100 MPs and end up "finished" as an electoral force unless it addresses working class voters' concerns on immigration and the economy, the party's biggest donor has declared.

In a damning assessment of the state of the party, John Mills said it faced "permanent minority status" if it cannot shore up its traditional base while also winning back middle England and Scotland.

The multi-millionaire retail tycoon also said MPs must unite behind whoever wins the Labour leadership race if it is to stand any chance of winning the next election.
